are you wearing the right haircut for your face shape?

who knew face shape had anything to do with their haircut or style?!?

People often look at a picture of a celebrity in a magazine and tell me, “I want to look like her!” Well, wouldn’t we all? I think it is important to not only study the style and what a client really wants, but also to take note of a persons face shape and structure. Choosing the right style for your face can help to enhance or take away from strong facial features.

Round face shape
– asymmetrical
– imprecision
– piecy layers
– pixie, helps define the cheek bones
– angled bob with long layers, hard lines help soften the round shape
– add body at the roots but avoid too much on the sides (widens the face)

round face shape, haircut, salon, bob, style

Oval face shape
– straight bangs above the brow line can create the illusion of width
– on shoulder length or longer, a center part with soft waves
– bob with side bangs
– avoid long styles, add waves to widen the face
– try not to wear it longer than shoulder length

oval face shape, haircut, style, salon, trend, fashion

Square face shape
– chin length soft tapered bob
– style hair with waves from the ears down
– wearing your hair straight and long takes the attention off of a strong jaw line

square face shape, style, salon, fashion, paris hilton

Heart face shape
– hair that hits right below the jaw line helps fill in the area around the chin
– also add body to disperse lines around the chin
– wear a deep side part and side swept bangs. (idea is to bring your eyes outward)
– a soft pixie cut with side swept bangs

heart face shape, style, salon, fashion, trend, bob, celebrity, face shape, haircut

Diamond Face Shape
– wear hair away from your face (pony or an updo)
– avoid heavy or straight bangs, try a side bang
– lots of layers help keep the diamond face shape open

So, like I said before: choosing the right style for your face can help to enhance or take away from strong facial features. Ask your stylist next time you’re in what they think your face shape is. Or ask them if you’re wearing the right style to best feature your face shape. Don’t forget, that’s what we’re here for…. To make you look your best!

the skinny on dry shampoo….

How often do you shampoo your hair?  Do you go to the gym after work, then need to meet the family for a softball game or friends for appetizers but don’t have enough time for a full shampoo, reblowdry and style?!?!  DRY SHAMPOO MIGHT JUST BE YOUR ANSWER!

at domani, we have three dry shampoos that we like each for their own reasons!  The only thing we have to warn you about, is SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE.  Make sure you shake your dry shampoo for a few seconds before you apply.  but let us tell you, IT’S A LIFE SAVER!

wake up late for work, no time to wash your hair?!?  dry shampoo and go!  or dry shampoo, re curl/flat iron and go!

It’s actually good for your hair and scalp to go 2-3 days between shampoos, did you know that?  (more to come on that from another blog post, down the road)

Alterna Caviar dry shampoo:

massage and spa must knows….

Often, we aren’t taught how to spa….

massage therapist, Jennifer is letting you in on the know.  answering all your questions, giving you the low down 😉

Here at domani salon and spa we want to ensure your experience here is as relaxing as the services themselves. Spa etiquette can be a source of anxiety for first-time spa goers, but it’s easy once you know a few basics.

Turn Off your Cell Phone. You can’t relax if you’re answering calls, checking emails, and texting. And neither can the person next to you. This even goes if you’re getting a pedicure. Bring a book or magazine instead.

Arrive On Time. Please plan to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. You may need a few minutes to fill out paperwork the first time or update your current information. Just leave yourself plenty of time to get there. There’s nothing more stressful than racing to a massage or facial. Better to get there a little early and relax than to get there late and miss part of your treatment.

Take a Shower. This step is especially important if you’ve spent time in a hot tub or pool, which has chlorinated water. You want to get those chemicals off, not have them massaged in.

Speak Up. When you make a massage appointment, guest services will generally ask if you prefer a male or female therapist. Massage therapists and other service providers are trained to respect boundaries and use proper draping techniques, so either should be fine.

During any service, feel free to speak up on anything you would like to be different — more pressure, less pressure, quieter music, a blanket if you’re cold, turning the table warmer off. Your comfort is the most important thing, and your therapist is there for you.

Stay In Your Comfort Zone. When changing into a robe and slippers please undress to your comfort level. However, keep in mind that some undergarments can interfere with your service and may even become stained with products used. It’s also good practice to remove any jewelry that may interfere with the service such as necklaces and earrings that hang.

To Talk Or Not To Talk. You can talk during the treatment or be completely silent, it’s up to you. The service provider should follow your lead. If you’re not talking and they won’t be quiet, you can say something like, “I’m just going to zone out/be quiet/rest for a little while.” The service provider will get the hint. In general, try to use a quiet “spa voice” when you talk anywhere in the spa.

Getting Up From the Treatment. Take your time getting up from the table, you don’t have to jump up instantly!  But, the service provider more than likely has another guest after you so don’t linger too long.

How Much To Tip? This depends on the spa. In day spas, 15-20% is typical. Many resort spas add on a service fee, not all of which goes to the service provider. If you’d like to give them something extra for exceptional service, you can. If you were given a gift certificate, ask if the tip was included. Gratuity is not required, but always greatly appreciated.

Cancelling Your Appointment. Most spas have a 24-hour cancellation policy, and if you left a charge card number, you may be charged. If you know you’re not going to make it, let the spa know as soon as possible. A therapist might have come in just for you, and if you don’t come in, the therapist doesn’t get paid.

I hope you found these tips informative and educational. If any other questions should arise prior to, during or after you service, please do not hesitate to ask your service provider.  We are here for you!
