Happy Heart Month!

Happy February!  It’s the American Heart Association Heart Month and a great time to focus on things we can do to inspire healthy hearts all around us.  Without a doubt, getting that much needed cardio 3 hours a week is a much bigger challenge this time of year than in mid summer.  But, can I just tell you, one of the things I love most about February?  I was reminded of this this morning at my health club of choice, how much less crowded by favorite fitness classes are, compared to last month!!  So, if crowds of New Year’s Resolution fanatics have forced you to keep your distance from your gym of choice, COME BACK!  Your heart will thank you.  Just as it will if you clear the clothes off your stationary bike, eliptical, or treadmill at home.  Or get your dog out for the regular walks he needs regardless of the weather.  Start with 15 minutes a day, then 20.  When you’re ready to make the jump from 25 to 30, give yourself a day off.  This may be a challenge.  It’s worth it.  Sitting at a desk all day is something we learned.  Gradually.  Remember how early in our school days they had to give us several recesses per day so we could all run around?  Later, it was just one, until high school, when none were required.  Some chose after school activities, some did not.  And our fates were sealed.  We might not have been fully in control of those choices then, whether transportation was an issue, or money, or the drive to get the best grades possible.  We are in charge now.  We may not get to take an hour’s worth of breaks each day to “run around”, but we can choose to incorporate some activities into our lifestyles in that same spirit.
On another  heart-healthy note, by now most everyone has heard how good oatmeal is for heart health, as its fiber has been proven to lower cholesterol and is a satisfying alternative to just about anything you can have for breakfast.  My Advocare education has led me to now chose only oatmeal or an Advocare Meal Replacement Shake for breakfast.  One of the reasons is that when you look at the back of a canister of oatmeal, there is one ingredient:  oatmeal.  No sodium, no cholesterol, plenty of soluable fiber, naturally high in iron, and a fair amount of protein!  And no sugar or anything we cannot pronounce the names of.  This is huge for me because, in the past year, I quit a 35 year cold cereal habit!  Of course, some are more like empty calories than others, and at least I always ate breakfast, which is way better than not.
When something faster is the order of the day, I’ve come to look forward to Advocare Meal Replacement Shakes.  The rich flavors are outstanding and come in chocolate, vanilla, berry, chocolate-mocha, and orange cream and are not only just for breakfast.  Whether you “need to cut calories or you need a nutritious on-the-go meal, grab a Meal Replacement Shake. Meal Replacement Shakes have a 1:1 protein-to-carbohydrate ratio, which studies show supports weight loss and sustained energy. And since they’re loaded with 24 grams of easily digestible protein, 26 vitamins and minerals and just 220 calories per serving, you’ll satisfy your rumbling tummy, feed your muscles with high-octane fuel and give your body wholesome nutrients for a healthier you. Meal Replacement Shakes also work great as part of the Metabolic Nutrition Systems (MNS®).” (borrowed from
Boxes of 14 can be purchased at Domani Salon & Spa.
Once again, I’ve opted to borrow a fabulous recipe from the test kitchen of Heather Devine.  Heather, if you’re reading this, Many Thanks, as this recipe is great for so many reasons (check out the protein!) and I had my heart set on sending out an oatmeal family solution rather than just telling everyone to “Eat more oatmeal.”  Watch for more of these in the 3 weeks to come.  Enjoy!  🙂
Oatmeal Pecan Pancakes
1 c. egg whites
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. oats
1/3 c. milk
2 tbsp. oil (I use grapeseed or olive)
1/4 c. finely ground pecans (food processors will grind whole pecans)
1/4 c. flax seed meal
1/4 tsp. Stevia
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
½ tsp. cinnamon
Beat egg whites till fluffy.  Beat remaining ingredients until just smooth.   For thinner pancakes, add a ¼ cup water at a time.  For each pancake, drop ¼ c batter onto hot griddle.  Serve with real maple syrup.
Until next time, my heart goes out to you, each of you, all on your own wellness journeys…

Never too late….

Hi All,
How are those New Year’s Resolutions coming, Team?  If you’ve begun to feel like you’ve bitten off more than you could chew, don’t give up.  Don’t give IN!!  Perhaps you took on too much at once and you couldn’t keep up up with everything you were trying to do differently.  Just take a couple steps back to where you got off track or renew your commitment and start over if you need to. It’s never too late to make a healthy lifestyle change.  Hmmm… Lifestyle change.  You’ll notice you may never hear me use the word DIET.  I can think of very few concepts that are more counterproductive.  Small changes you believe in so strongly that you are willing to commit to that way of thinking for the rest of your life, a.k.a. lifestyle changes, pave the path to wellness success you can really hold onto.  It’s never too late.  Your body will thank you.
Start small.  Consider changes you can do easily TODAY.  Take a 20 minute walk.  Say “no” to soft drinks for the rest of the day.  Try a veggie and nuts for a snack instead of anything with sugar.  Redefine dessert as a piece of fresh fruit or dark chocolate.  But if these are BIG changes for you, pick 1 or 2, NOT all of them.  And do them, or any other healthy change of your choice, until it becomes part of your identity.  Forgive yourself for veering off track.  We’re human, afterall.  Hop back ON!!
Need a jump start?  Domani Salon and Spa is still offering Advocare’s 24-Day Challenge at at a discount of 25% off through the last day of January.  If you’d like to be motivated by the opportunity to win a spa package in the Biggest Winner Contest, call TODAY.  As long as I talk to you on or before February 4th, your results will still qualify.  It’s fun, it’s easy, and IT WORKS!  The system gives you a boost and supports your healthy lifestyle any time of year.
Now, for those of you kings and queens of motivation and will-power out there (and I don’t mean me, I still completely loose it around anything covered in frosting or cheese!), you know that adding protein to your meals and snacks, helps cut cravings, accelerates your body’s ability to burn calories, and hastens the recovery process after exercise.  Advocare “Pro 20 is a well-rounded, superior liquid protein and amino acid supplement.* And, it’s not just any protein. The 3 oz. bottle is packed with 20 grams of soluble hydrolyzed protein, which the body can absorb quickly, to support lean muscle mass.*

Unlike many protein supplements, Pro 20 provides 200 mg of Alpha-GPC, helping increase strength, speed, agility, reaction time, and power and performance.* With just 140 calories, Pro 20 is also packed with B vitamins and electrolytes. The convenient and fast delivery of these superior ingredients facilitates recovery, helping provide increased, sustained energy.* Pro 20 can be used as a pre-workout supplement as well as a recovery product.” (borrowed from

Pick up your 8-serving box at Domani as soon as the roads are clear. 😉
On this blustery winter day, I’m looking forward to a little salad pick-me-up.  My friend, Heather, shared this recipe with me almost a year ago, when I begun my Advocare journey.  She said she liked it because it has a little bit of everything you in it and I’ve made it nearly once a month since.  I love all the flavors and textures.
Black Bean and Mango Salad
1 ½- 2 c mango
½ -1 c thin sliced green onion
1-1½ c brown rice
3 tbsp fresh cilantro minced
1 tbsp salsa
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp olive oil, or grapeseed oil
¾ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 large can of black beans

Slice, dice, mix and enjoy!!!  I will also put some of this on top of 2 cups of mixed green to get more veggie in.

Be safe and be good to yourself!

Yours truly,

Greetings from Domani Wellness!

Still seeing & hearing great things from the Advocare 24-Day Challengers – keep up the great work!! I’m intrigued at how, though it may work quite differently from one induvidual to another, it does still work. That’s why there are so many options and add-ins. Let’s work together together to find the combination that helps you win. Remember, at almost all times, I’m just a phone call or email away. Please let me find answers any questions you may have. There are just 10 days left to pick up your 24-Day Challange products at the 25% discount, but you have all of February to log your results for the Biggest Winner Contest to win a spa package at Domani. Of course, when you invest in yourself with Advocare, you receive the support and guidance you need in order to reach your wellness goals any time of year!

Many of you are into the second 14 days of your challenge so I wanted to discuss Advocare’s MNS systems as it plays the most dramatic role in the 24-Day Challenge. “Metabolic Nutrition Systems (MNS®) help you target your specific weight management challenges.* MNS Maximum Energy contains a proprietary blend of botanical extracts and nutrients designed to help “rev up” metabolism.* It reflects years of research and development at AdvoCare®, where our Scientific and Medical Advisory Board has searched the world for the safest and most effective energy boosters.* It is the synergistic blends and scientifically proportional amounts of ingredients used in MNS Maximum Energy that make it an exceptional solution for weight management.* For added metabolism support, use it in conjunction with ThermoPlus™ Vitamin and Herbal Supplement.” (borrowed from

For maximum appetite control you may prefer the MNS Max C formula. And MNS Max 3 offers noticable energy and appetite control as well, but has approximately half the caffeine as the other 2. In place of the caffeine and extra appetite control it offers superior core nutrition and wellness benefits. There is an MNS for every body. Put one to work for you.

I don’t know about you, but I’m really missing the Wisconsin summer farmer’s market bounty right now. Lucky for us, me can find most everything we need for a healthy diet in the grocery store. So, shop the perimeter, imagine the sun on your neck, and be glad that most everything is still in season SOMEWHERE. Definitely, take advantage of the the shining stars of the winter produce section, sensational citrus! Grapefruit, in particular, are at their sweetest, juiciest, best in January & February. These cancer-fighting, fiber-rich, vitamin-packed little numbers actually contain an acid that slows digestion in order to keep you feeling fuller longer. They’re the cheapest right now, too! Don’t be discouraged if you still find them priced at over $1 each. They’re usually huge and you still benefit from eating 1/2 today and covering the other in the fridge to enjoy tomorrow. Or toss sections into a salad – a whole one would be too much anyway.

 Here’s another deliciously creative idea:

Chicken and Grapefruit

4 boneless chicken breasts

1/2 tsp dried thyme

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 T bsp olive oil

1/4 c dry white wine

1/4 c chicken broth

3 T bsp grapefruit juice

2 tsp honey

3 c trimmed watercress

2 grapefruit, cut into segments Season chicken with thyme and half of the salt and pepper.

Heat oil in frying pan over medium-high heat. Brown chicken, 6 minutes a side. Add next 4 ingredients. Simmer until reduced to 1/3 cup.

Season with remaining salt and pepper. Put watercress and grapefruit on plates. Top with chicken and sauce. 4 servings Read more:

I like this with over brown rice with broccoli. So easy and so AMAZING!

‘Til next time, the more you squeeze, perhaps the less you’ll have to sneeze! Enjoy 🙂

Doesn’t have to be hard to be working!

I am so excited!  Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak with a couple people who are doing the 24-Day Challenge for Domani’s Biggest Winner contest.  And, WOW!!  I am extrememly impressed with the level of committment and the results I’m seeing so far!  What I’m hearing the most is how easy it is to follow.  And painless – as after just a couple of days, cravings are noticably under control or even non-existent.  Truly, it only takes a couple days of distance from sugary or starchy snacks before your body stops calling out to them.  So, keep up the good work and tell your friends and family.  The special 25%-off price on Advocare’s 24-day Challenge products and the opportunity to get in on the chance to win a spa package are going on through January.  Results will be announced March 1st.  Or simply do it for yourself.  Either way you win! 🙂
My wellness tip this week is especially for those of you working on making some serious changes this month.  Keep a food log.  This always helps when someone comes to me with questions if their diet isn’t working because we can examine the history together and find the sneaky culprits.  It also shows where things like protein or fiber need to be added.  And it adds an element of accountability, if only to yourself.  Don’t leave anything out.  You may be surprised where the extra calories are creaping in!  I strongly encourage all 24-Day Challengers to be doing this.
Questions about Advocare’s OmegaPlex this week have prompted me to make this my Advocare Prodct of the Week.  “OmegaPlex® omega-3 fatty acid supplement is a safe, convenient, easy way to get the omega-3 fatty acids that may be missing from your diet, especially if you consume fish less than twice a week. It contains both 600 mg of EPA and 400 mg DHA long-chain omega-3 fatty acids per serving for maximum benefit.* Because these nutrients are involved in transporting nutrients, OmegaPlex is an important component for core nutrition.* It also helps promote healthy hair, skin and nails, and supports a healthy immune system.* It plays a key role in cardiovascular activity by supporting normal blood flow and healthy blood pressure.* In fact, consuming omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.** By supporting a healthy metabolism, OmegaPlex can aid weight management.*

OmegaPlex meets the highest quality standards of product safety and efficacy. Each softgel starts with high-quality marine lipid concentrate, which must meet strict analytical testing requirements for environmental contaminants, quantity of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids and oxidation as indicators of safety, purity, potency and freshness. OmegaPlex also contains the antioxidant vitamin E in its most active form to further ensure omega-3 fatty acid stability.* The quality values of OmegaPlex are consistent with or exceed the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) voluntary monograph values.” (borrowed from

This omega-3 fatty acid supplement is for everyone.  Take 2 soft-gels twice or more daily with meals.  There is even a kid-friendly version called Purple Champs.  They’re delicious!
With my focus on omega-3’s this week, it seemed appropriate to include my favorite omega-3-rich recipe:
Steamed Salmon with Leeks
4 chinook salmon fillets (4-oz. each)
1 large leek, divided
1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger
1 Tbsp dry sherry
2 tsp reduced-sodium soy sauce
Rinse salmon in cold water & dry with a paper towel.
Trim tough green part and root end from leek, and discard.  Cut leek in half lengthwise.  Rinse with cold water, pulling apart layers to remove grit.  Cut leek into very thin slices.  Spread 2/3 of slices evenly on large microwaveable plate.  Cover loosely with waxed paper, and microwave on high 30 seconds.
Combine ginger, sherry, soy sauce, and remaining leeks in a small bowl.
Place salmon on plate over microwaved leek slices, skin-side down, in spoke fashion so thickest parts face outward.  Pour ginger mixture evenly over top and cover loosely with waxed paper.  Microwave on high 4 to 6 minutes or until salmon is opaque in center.  Test for doneness by inserting tip of a sharp knife in center of fillet.  Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
4 servings.  230 calories, 11g protein, 20g carbs, 3g fiber, 12g fat, 540mg sodium
from The Doctors Book of Healing Foods, Selene Yeager and the editors of Prevention, Rodale Inc.
Enjoy over a green salad or brown rice or with a side of seasonal fruits!
‘Til next time, something to keep all that positve energy flowing:  the days are getting  longer!!!

Feel The Burn, More of the Good Kind!

It’s New Year’s Resolution Time – how are your muscles & joints feeling right now?  If you’ve been doing activities this past week that you haven’t done in a while, I bet your body is paying you back!  And, by the way, sore, swollen muscles weigh more so weighing yourself right now could be misleading.  And DISCOURAGING!  Two things you can do to prevent that feeling:  don’t ever stop, or make sure to give your body the nutrients it needs to rebuild and recover.  Or how about both??
My focus product for the week is Advocare’s Post-Workout Recovery.  “Post-Workout Recovery Sports Drink contains more than 30 vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that support the muscles’ metabolic processes in recovery and helps minimize occasional soreness after workouts. Post-Workout Recovery combines the muscle-supporting nutrition used by hundreds of professional and world-class athletes across the United States. Post-Workout Recovery helps enhance physical performance and endurance while supplying essential components for muscle repair and gain during and after physical activity. The unique blend of high-quality protein combined with glucose polymers and other carbohydrates, gives the body energy and structural support.

Post-Workout Recovery also contains branched-chain amino acids to support muscle recovery, growth and endurance. Finally, the antioxidants present in this advanced sports drink help the body ward off free radicals that are commonly produced as a result of exercise.” (borrowed from

I know the above might have looked like a lot of techical mumbo-jumbo.  This is a 230 calorie beverage to drink within an hour after you workout that helps balance what you just burned so when you get home you don’t feel like you want to eat everything in your house.  Plus, the nutrients are precisely blended to support the recovery process.  Read:  LESS SORENESS!  They come in Chocolate & Vanilla economical tubs and convenient packets and is a perfect accompaniment to Advocare’s 24-Day Challenge on sale now at Domani for 25% off.  Call today to have the front desk make your complimentary consultation appointment with me and whatever your fitness level, get ready to take it to the next level.  If you choose to have us track your progress for our Biggest Winner Contest, you could even win a spa package worth over $200!!
You’ve been doing so many great things for yourself.  My wellness tip today is, Don’t sabotage all your positive progress by skipping breakfast.  Okay, you’ve heard this all your life, so for for all you breakfast EATERS out there, I’m going to take it one step further.  Eat an adequate breakfast within an hour of when you wake up.  Shoot for, at minimum, 220 calories, a majority of which should come from protein.  A protein-rich A.M. meal speeds muscle recovery, kick-starts your metabolism, and signals your brain that your body is about to do some work.  Put it all together and what you have is real energy you can feel.  Most of you know what picky eaters 4-year-olds can be, which is why, even though it might be extra work, I positively jump for joy when my son wants a scrambled egg with cheese and a wholegrain waffle with fruit for breakfast instead of cereal & milk.  I just know how much more allert he’s going to be in school.
What I like about the following recipe, besides the 22g of protein, is that these are all ingredients that are in my fridge right now.  Use seasonings that YOU love!
Veggie Frittata Pocket
4 white mushrooms, sliced
1 Tbsp red bell pepper, chopped
1 Tbsp onion, chopped
pinch of ground black pepper
2 eggs
1/2 small tomato, chopped
3 Tbsp milk
1 whole wheat pita, halved & toasted
1/2 avocado, sliced
Coat a skillet with olive oil cooking spray, place over medium heat, and saute, muchrooms, onions, bell pepper, and black pepper, and cook 3-4 minutes.
Meanwhile, whisk together eggs, tomato, and milk until frothy.  Pour the eggg mixture into the skillet.  Cook , stirring , for 3-4 minutes, or until eggs are firm.
Fill each pita with half the eggs and top with avocado slices.
Makes 1 serving.  436 cals, 22g protein, 40g carbs, 9 g fiber, 7 g sugars, 23g fat (healthy-avocado), 411mg sodium.
From The Women’s Health Diet, Steven Perrine, 2011 Rodale Inc.
I tend to only use 1 pita half and eat the rest of the mixture on the side, with hot sauce!  This keeps this recipe under 400 calories and has fewer carbs.  Just my preference. 🙂  Enjoy!
Keep up the good work & I’ll see you at Domani!!

Why should I Herbal Cleanse?

 Greetings from Domani Wellness!
I hope all the beauty & wonder & DELICIOUSNESS of the season has been yours and the New Year finds you and your loved ones all safe and healthy.  It has been a couple of weeks since I last wrote, but with holidays being what they are, I figured, Who needs more stuff in their inbox?!  Now, with the new year upon us, it’s likely many of us have at least one wellness resolution.  An excellent place to start is with a cleanse.  You might be relieved to know that a cleanse is not a fast, but rather a short period of time in which you actually eat often, but only the foods that you know your body really needs in order to help reset your digestive system.  And, as many of you have already learned, Advocare has cleansing down to a science.  What a perfect time to put it to work for you again!
“The AdvoCare® Herbal Cleanse system can help rid your body of toxins and waste with its unique blend of herbal ingredients.* Using a systematic approach, this 10-day system guides you day by day through the steps for thorough internal cleansing and improved digestion.* Herbal Cleanse supports the body’s metabolic systems and general health during the detoxification process by helping to keep energy levels up, aiding in removing impurities and supporting the immune system.* Some people who use Herbal Cleanse for the first time experience an encouraging weight reduction and/or reduction in inches when they pair the system with the recommended diet and exercise.” (borrowed from
And while you’re at it, why not follow it up with the other 14 days of the 24 Day Challenge.  It’s an excellent way to start a new wellness routine, bust through a current weight-loss plateau, or simply to gain more energy.  It’s all on sale now for 25% off at Domani Salon & Spa.
My wellness tip for the week is to tune in to your sugar intake.  If you have no other resolutions this 2013, make cutting sugar a priority.  There are so many reasons, but here are the top 3:  Sugar not burned for energy converts to fat that is much harder to burn off.  The steady rise of diabetes & related illnesses has begun to significantly burden the health care industry.  Sugar aggrivates inflamation EVERYWHERE in your body, contributing to pain, breakouts, and aging.  So even if cutting calories for weight loss is the furthest thing from your mind, breaking a sugar addiction is one of the best things you can do to show your body some love.
Try this recipe for your next tapas party, maybe even tonight!  I like to call them Caprese-salads-on-a-stick, viturally sug ar-free…
Mozzarella & Cherry Tomato Skewers
10 cherry tomatoes, halved, or grape tomatoes
20 basil leaves
10 bocconcini balls, halved, or 6 oz. regular mozzarella cheese, cut in 20 cubes
20 pitted black olives
olive oil for drizzling
kosher or sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
20 toothpicks
Thread one of each item on toothpicks or cocktail skewers.  Lightly drizzle olive oil over the loaded skewers and season with salt and lots of black pepper.  There is a lot of room here for your own preferences, such as peppers or mushrooms in place of one or more of the the other items.  Also, experiment with other types of pepper or herb.  (Tip:  Here in Watertown, I have found containers of fresh mozzarella balls in containers of liquid in the deli section of the grocery store.  The ones I’ve used are about the size of olives and work beautifully.)  Enjoy!

So, start your cleansing and we’ll talk soon!

Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-LAH-CHOO!!!

Hello Again from Lisa & Domani Wellness,
This weeks email is all about your immune system. You know you did it: hugged a few people you my not have hugged had it not been Thanksgiving, shook a lot more hands than usual… And now you’re feelin it. If you haven’t already. Well, it’s not too late to take action. In fact, it’s the perfect time to prepare your body for the rest of the holiday season and prime time for colds & flu. Let’s start with my Advocare product spotlight – CitriZinc!

“AdvoCare® CitriZinc™ is an easy-to-take chew with the delicious flavor of lemon and lime. CitriZinc supports immunity by providing three important nutrients most of us aren’t getting adequate amounts of in our daily diet: vitamin C, zinc and vitamin D.*

Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps protect against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, and eye disease and can even help protect skin from wrinkling. Also, as an antioxidant that helps fight free radicals, vitamin C contributes to a healthy immune system and is necessary for healthy bones, teeth and skin. This effective nutrient also supports absorption of the mineral iron, and plays an important role in nerve and brain function.

Zinc is found in cells throughout the body and is an important nutrient the body needs to stay healthy. It helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses. Some research ranks it with vitamin C when it comes to helping reduce the effect of seasonal illnesses.

Vitamin D
Studies show that vitamin D enhances immunity and helps ensure the body absorbs and retains calcium and phosphorus, critical for building bone. Research conducted over the last decade suggests this powerful vitamin plays a much broader disease-fighting role than once thought. Laboratory studies show that vitamin D also plays a critical role in helping support immune function.” (borrowed from

My wellness tip for the week, in addition to heading to Domani to pick up your CitriZinc, is GET MOVING. OUTDOORS. Exercise is such a valuable player in your fight for illness reduction. And you get an added benefit from doing it outside. The cold, fresh air helps stimulate the immune system, believe it or not. But, if you think about for how many hundreds of years people have actually CHOSEN to live in Wisconsin and SURVIVED, it makes sense. I’m not talking about spending half a day out there, but most of us can handle a 20 minute walk. It’s still above freezing, go for 25 or 30.

Ginger Tea.  Ginger warms the body and increases circulation. Ginger tea is also a soothing drink for someone who has an upset stomach or nausea.

2 cups water, a 1-inch piece fresh ginger thinly sliced, freshly squeezed lemon juice & maple syrup or honey to taste.

Simmer water and ginger 10-20 minutes. Strain and pour into cups.  Add a squeeze of fresh lemon & sweeten to taste.

Cold Remedy Ginger Tea.  When a cold is coming on, use a piece of ginger the size of the ill person’s thumb in the 2 cups of water.  Simmer until liquid is reduced in half, about an hour.  Remove from heat and add lemon and honey.

…’til next time, Keep washing your hands, people!  😉

domani wellness

Hello and welcome, domani friends & family!
This is the 1st of what will become an ongoing series of emails to everyone of you who has begun a journey of wellness through domani salon & spa & Advocare.  My name is Lisa and Advocare has been an amazing addition to my life since I discovered it back in March, 2012.  I am 40 years old and have a 4 year-old son so you can only imagine what my energy requirements are!  Advocare has made some things possible for me that I believe otherwise would not have been:  a complete energy turnaround, more toned muscles throughout my body, and the desire to challenge myself in ways I never had before.  All of these things compelled me to run a couple of half-marathons this year and I don’t plan on stopping with that.  My 2 favorite Advocare products are Spark and MNS-3.  But enough about me.  You can find me at domani salon & spa most days and I welcome everyone who wishes to talk to me in person.
Since this is my 1st email, my wellness tip for the week is naturally the most elementary.  BREATHE.  Not just the short, quick, shallow kind that we do all day every day.  I’m talking about the deep and deliberate kind which will expand your abdomen as you take it in.  And get outside to enjoy this whenever possible.  There won’t be too many days left this season when this will be such an enticing idea – so take every opportunity you can.  NOW.
That brings me to Thanksgiving right around the corner.  With just a couple days remaining for last minute preparations, I’d like to throw out there 1 healthy alternative to a traditional holiday favorite.  This is something you can feel much less guilty about when you go back for seconds.  And I love it so much I make it every year.
Wild Rice Stuffing
Cooking spray
1 1/2 c. chopped celery
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. uncooked wild rice
2 garlic cloves, minced
4 c. fat-free, reduded sodium chicken broth
1 1/2 Tbsp.chopped fresh sage or 1 t. dry
1 c. uncooked long-grain brown rice
1/2 c. dried sweet cherries
1/2 c. chopped dried apricots
1/2 c. chopped pecans, toasted
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
Heat Dutch oven over med-hi heat.  Coat pan w/ cooking spray. Add celery, onion, wild rice, & garlic to pan; saute 3 minutes.  Stir in broth & sage; bring to a boil.  Cover reduce heat, simmer 25 minutes.  Stir in brown rice & bring to a boil.  Cover, reduce heat, and cook 30 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.  Remove from heat; let stand, covered, 10 minutes.  Stir in cherries and remaining ingredients.  Serves 12-ish.  😉
