How are those New Year’s Resolutions coming, Team?  If you’ve begun to feel like you’ve bitten off more than you could chew, don’t give up.  Don’t give IN!!  Perhaps you took on too much at once and you couldn’t keep up up with everything you were trying to do differently.  Just take a couple steps back to where you got off track or renew your commitment and start over if you need to. It’s never too late to make a healthy lifestyle change.  Hmmm… Lifestyle change.  You’ll notice you may never hear me use the word DIET.  I can think of very few concepts that are more counterproductive.  Small changes you believe in so strongly that you are willing to commit to that way of thinking for the rest of your life, a.k.a. lifestyle changes, pave the path to wellness success you can really hold onto.  It’s never too late.  Your body will thank you. 
 
Start small.  Consider changes you can do easily TODAY.  Take a 20 minute walk.  Say “no” to soft drinks for the rest of the day.  Try a veggie and nuts for a snack instead of anything with sugar.  Redefine dessert as a piece of fresh fruit or dark chocolate.  But if these are BIG changes for you, pick 1 or 2, NOT all of them.  And do them, or any other healthy change of your choice, until it becomes part of your identity.  Forgive yourself for veering off track.  We’re human, afterall.  Hop back ON!!

On this blustery winter day, I’m looking forward to a little salad pick-me-up.  My friend, Heather, shared this recipe with me almost a year ago, when I begun my Advocare journey.  She said she liked it because it has a little bit of everything you in it and I’ve made it nearly once a month since.  I love all the flavors and textures.
 
Black Bean and Mango Salad
 
1 ½- 2 c mango
½ -1 c thin sliced green onion
1-1½ c brown rice
3 tbsp fresh cilantro minced
1 tbsp salsa
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp olive oil, or grapeseed oil
¾ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 large can of black beans

Slice, dice, mix and enjoy!!!  I will also put some of this on top of 2 cups of mixed green to get more veggie in.
