cupping massages…

Domani has introduced Cupping therapy into our massages.

Cupping is a  traditional, time-honored treatment which is favored by millions of people worldwide because of it’s safe, comfortable, remarkable results effective for many health disorders.

Cupping therapy is the method of using glass or plastic cups to create localized pressure by a vacuum.  The Chinese have been doing this since ancient times by using heat inside glass or bamboo cups.  Nowadays, cupping sets use suction to create the vacuum.  The vacuum inside the cups causes the blood to form in the area and help the healing in that area.

Ancient Chinese medicine have believed that the body contains “Meridians”.  These meridians are pathways in the body which the energy of life called Qi (“chi”) flows through.  It flows through every body part, tissue, and organ.  Cupping therapy is mainly performed on one’s back because there are five meridians on your back.  When these meridians are opened, the internal energy is able to flow through the whole body.

Another healing aspect of cupping therapy is through the release of toxins in your body.  The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into your tissues causing the tissues to release harmful toxins.  It triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels, and stretches and activates the skin.

Cupping therapy has been found in ancient records dating back 3500 years and it is still used today by many. Through suction, the skin is drawn into the cup by creating a vacuum in the cup placed on the skin over the targeted area. The cupping removes harmful substances and toxins from the body to promote well-being.

People receive the cupping therapy for many reasons. Some include but are not limited to inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and deep- tissue massage.

Your massage therapist at domani salon & spa will discuss the option to integrate the cupping technique COMPLIMENTARY into your 60 or 90 minute massage session!!!

why you pay for experience

why education is so important in our industry… and why we have different tiered pricing at domani.

You see,  just an everyday short haircut and style is different than the MORE MODERN SHORT HAIRCUT and styles. There are more expectations with the new styles as far as versatility & texture.  After the haircut, the stylist should be able to show you many different ways in which you can style your new cut. Some will be fun, new and energetic and others will be more conservative and natural. This will allow the guest to be able to wear their hair to fit the occasion.

♥ All hair cutting takes training.

♥ All good haircuts need great training.

However, we feel at domani that short, modern haircuts need great training and years of experience.

We feel this way because in order to have your hair move in the directions that the style requires the hair must be cut and texturized in a way that only experienced stylist can provide.

At domani we are so fortunate to have hairstylists of all experience levels, ranging from: fresh out of beauty school, going through our domani training program to stylists with over 30 years of experience.  As we stated above… sometimes those short, textured haircuts require experience and lots of training!!!

massage and spa must knows….

Often, we aren’t taught how to spa….

massage therapist, Jennifer is letting you in on the know.  answering all your questions, giving you the low down 😉

Here at domani salon and spa we want to ensure your experience here is as relaxing as the services themselves. Spa etiquette can be a source of anxiety for first-time spa goers, but it’s easy once you know a few basics.

Turn Off your Cell Phone. You can’t relax if you’re answering calls, checking emails, and texting. And neither can the person next to you. This even goes if you’re getting a pedicure. Bring a book or magazine instead.

Arrive On Time. Please plan to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. You may need a few minutes to fill out paperwork the first time or update your current information. Just leave yourself plenty of time to get there. There’s nothing more stressful than racing to a massage or facial. Better to get there a little early and relax than to get there late and miss part of your treatment.

Take a Shower. This step is especially important if you’ve spent time in a hot tub or pool, which has chlorinated water. You want to get those chemicals off, not have them massaged in.

Speak Up. When you make a massage appointment, guest services will generally ask if you prefer a male or female therapist. Massage therapists and other service providers are trained to respect boundaries and use proper draping techniques, so either should be fine.

During any service, feel free to speak up on anything you would like to be different — more pressure, less pressure, quieter music, a blanket if you’re cold, turning the table warmer off. Your comfort is the most important thing, and your therapist is there for you.

Stay In Your Comfort Zone. When changing into a robe and slippers please undress to your comfort level. However, keep in mind that some undergarments can interfere with your service and may even become stained with products used. It’s also good practice to remove any jewelry that may interfere with the service such as necklaces and earrings that hang.

To Talk Or Not To Talk. You can talk during the treatment or be completely silent, it’s up to you. The service provider should follow your lead. If you’re not talking and they won’t be quiet, you can say something like, “I’m just going to zone out/be quiet/rest for a little while.” The service provider will get the hint. In general, try to use a quiet “spa voice” when you talk anywhere in the spa.

Getting Up From the Treatment. Take your time getting up from the table, you don’t have to jump up instantly!  But, the service provider more than likely has another guest after you so don’t linger too long.

How Much To Tip? This depends on the spa. In day spas, 15-20% is typical. Many resort spas add on a service fee, not all of which goes to the service provider. If you’d like to give them something extra for exceptional service, you can. If you were given a gift certificate, ask if the tip was included. Gratuity is not required, but always greatly appreciated.

Cancelling Your Appointment. Most spas have a 24-hour cancellation policy, and if you left a charge card number, you may be charged. If you know you’re not going to make it, let the spa know as soon as possible. A therapist might have come in just for you, and if you don’t come in, the therapist doesn’t get paid.

I hope you found these tips informative and educational. If any other questions should arise prior to, during or after you service, please do not hesitate to ask your service provider.  We are here for you!

spread the LOVE

Hello, once again, to all dear friends and family of Domani Wellness,

Though it has been well over a week since the last installment, know that I have been thinking of you daily and hoping you are all coping as well as can be expected.  As you can imagine, I myself have been stunned to speechlessness.  In this week like no others this country has known since the destruction of World Trade Center towers, we must once again call up every last ounce of strength in our hearts and show the world, as well as one another, that the human spirit is far more difficult to crush.  Though I doubt I’d be capable of such lofty words had any member of my own family been injured or worse in Boston or Waco.  But on behalf of Domani, my family, and myself, our hearts go out to all those trying to regain peace in their lives after such a horrrible week of loss and destruction.  Countless thanks go out to all the fire and rescue personnel, law enforcement, and service men and women who are giving all they can trying to restore “normal” in the face of chaos.  Would that our prayers could only be enough.  Well, let’s all keep sending them anyway.

For my wellness tip of the week, all I wish offer is this:  We only get one chance at this life… For God’s sakes LIVE IT. Spread LOVE.  Any way, any where, and to anyone you can.  You never know when or where you will have the opportunity to change someone’s life.  Use your powers for good.  The best thing about giving a smile is you almost always get it back!  It doesn’t hurt and it doesn’t cost a thing.  And one by one, feel the burdens on your own heart become lifted.  Make someone’s day – every day.

I know quite a few of you are wrapping up an Herbal Cleanse so I wanted to discuss Advocare’s MNS systems as it plays the most dramatic role in the 24-Day Challenge and is the best nutrition regimine on the market today.  Conquering the nutritional gaps in your diet equals conquering cravings.  You can do this.  Let AdvoCare show you how.  “Metabolic Nutrition Systems (MNS®) help you target your specific weight management challenges.* MNS Maximum Energy contains a proprietary blend of botanical extracts and nutrients designed to help “rev up” metabolism.*+ It reflects years of research and development at AdvoCare®, where our Scientific and Medical Advisory Board has searched the world for the safest and most effective energy boosters.* It is the synergistic blends and scientifically proportional amounts of ingredients used in MNS Maximum Energy that make it an exceptional solution for weight management.* For added metabolism support, use it in conjunction with ThermoPlus™ Vitamin and Herbal Supplement.” (borrowed from Advocare.com

For maximum appetite control you may prefer the MNS Max C formula.  MNS Max 3 offers noticable energy and appetite control as well, but has approximately half the caffeine as the other 2.  In place of the caffeine and extra appetite control it offers superior core nutrition and wellness benefits.  There is an MNS for every body.  Put one to work for you.  Oh, and by the way, when you find your favorite MNS system, you can keep doing it over and over.  It’s safe, effective, and you feel amazing.  Why stop?  Find me and my favorite MNS at Domani Salon & Spa.

Yup. Still cold out and comfort food still seems like a really good idea.  And if you thought cleansing meant steering clear of red meat…think again.  Just think lean and enjoy.  Great for leftovers, especially when you need to pack a lunch for work.

Brown Rice Pasta

1 lb Ground Turkey, Bison, or very lean Ground Beef
Brown Rice Pasta
1 large jar No Sugar Added Spaghetti Sauce
2 cloves minced garlic
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium bell pepper , chopped(green, red, or yellow or a combination of each)
1 small box frozen chopped spinach
1 (8oz) can tomato sauce (No Sugar Added)
2 TBSP fresh parsley, chopped

Cook frozen chopped spinach according to package directions. Cool, drain, and squeeze as much of the
excess liquid from the spinach as possible. Spray a large nonstick skillet with no calorie/no fat
cooking spray and brown meat with onions, garlic, and bell pepper until meat is cooked through. Add
spaghetti sauce, spinach, tomato sauce, and fresh parsley to the cooked meat. Simmer until heated
through.
Meanwhile boil pasta according to package directions .
Tips for serving: It is best not to mix your noodles and meat mixture together so that you can control
the amount of pasta and meat you consume. Using the appropriate portion size for your weight
measure out your pasta and meat and then mix the two together on your plate.

As always, I’m here if you need me 🙂

Hooray for NEW Advocare products at domani!!!

Top O’ the Mornin’ to all you friends and family of Domani Wellness,

Since the pool in my neighborhood reopens the 1st week in June, I figure, that’s 3 months to swimsuit season.  This may not exactly be music to YOUR ears, but for the ladies who took part in Domani’s Biggest Winner Contest, spring is looking a great deal more sunny.  Even though I cannot announce the winner of the spa package without proper permission, I can say that when I average all the results, it comes to nearly 9 pounds per person!  Now, as grand as AdvoCare’s 24-Day-Challenge is, even AdvoCare, the company suggests a 90 day committment.

For a lot of people, the first month is just getting the cobwebs out, with the next two seeing some real breakthroughs.  The products fill in the nutritional gaps to help with energy and cravings, and ultimately accheive faster results, but these women all worked hard to make positive lifestyle changes, as well.  The one thing I heard each of them say is that they feel amazing.  And isn’t the first step to accomplishing a goal, having the energy to do it?  So find your favorite product(s) to carry forward and give you the tools you need to continue your success.  I am so proud of all of you!

Two weeks ago at Success School I witnessed the launch of 3 new items for everyone to love.  I just didn’t want to get you all too excited until we actually had them on the shelves.  So buckle your seatbelts, this ride is gonna be wild!

  • 3 new flavors of Spark:  Raspberry Tea, Tangerine, & Watermelon – all in one box!  AdvoCare is asking everyone to vote for their favorite flavor on Facebbook.  But you only have until May 1st to do it.  The winning flavor will be the next permanent addition to the lineup.

  • An outrageously craveable nutrition bar called AdvoBar Raw.  It’s 210 calories of raw fruit and nut energy with ample amounts of protein and fiber to fuel your fire.  And finaly, there is now a non-dairy, vegetarian formula meal replacement shake in a rich DARK CHOCOLATE flavor.  Check out all that’s new at Domani Salon & Spa.

As one fabulous promotion comes to a close, so begins another one.  For the entire month of March, we will be featuring Advocare CorePlex multivitamins and offering all 3 varieties at 25% off!  “CorePlex® supplement provides a synergistic combination of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that helps supply the body with advanced nutrition for optimal health.* Each ingredient provides nutritional balance to fill the gaps in the average American diet.* It provides the right nutrients in the right amounts to ensure optimal absorption.* And the chelated amino acid-bound minerals in CorePlex make them easily digestible and highly absorbable.*
The vitamins and antioxidants in CorePlex work together to help strengthen the immune system and fight the effects of free radicals.* Minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc help support healthy bones and many other biological processes.* B-vitamins help the body convert fats, carbohydrates and proteins into energy and support the cardiovascular and neurological systems.* Vitamin C helps support and enhance the immune system.*
In addition to all the benefits of CorePlex, CorePlex with Iron provides 100% of the daily-recommended amount of iron, which is especially important for pregnant women, nursing mothers and women of childbearing age, especially those with heavy menstrual cycles.” (borrowed from AdvoCare.com)  Also available in chewables for children and other non-pill-takers! 🙂

I have one last oatmeal recipe to wrap up HEART month.  Yes, it’s March now, but I had a request for a healthy baked oatmeal.  This recipe can be found on the Mayo Clinic website, however, I tweaked it a bit.  Serve with no-sugar-added yogurt for added protein and calcium – definitely a breakfast to look forward to!

Baked Oatmeal

1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup pure maple syrup or to taste
Egg substitute equivalent to 2 eggs, or 4 egg whites
3 cups uncooked rolled oats
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 to 1 cup chopped or ground walnuts
1 cup skim, soy or almond milk

In a good-sized bowl, stir together oil, applesauce, sugar and eggs. Add dry ingredients and milk. Mix well. Spray a 9-by-13 baking pan generously with cooking spray. Spoon oatmeal mixture into pan. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 30 minutes.  Makes 8 servings.  The values listed below represent the recipe made without the walnuts.

Never too late….

Hi All,

How are those New Year’s Resolutions coming, Team?  If you’ve begun to feel like you’ve bitten off more than you could chew, don’t give up.  Don’t give IN!!  Perhaps you took on too much at once and you couldn’t keep up up with everything you were trying to do differently.  Just take a couple steps back to where you got off track or renew your commitment and start over if you need to. It’s never too late to make a healthy lifestyle change.  Hmmm… Lifestyle change.  You’ll notice you may never hear me use the word DIET.  I can think of very few concepts that are more counterproductive.  Small changes you believe in so strongly that you are willing to commit to that way of thinking for the rest of your life, a.k.a. lifestyle changes, pave the path to wellness success you can really hold onto.  It’s never too late.  Your body will thank you.

Start small.  Consider changes you can do easily TODAY.  Take a 20 minute walk.  Say “no” to soft drinks for the rest of the day.  Try a veggie and nuts for a snack instead of anything with sugar.  Redefine dessert as a piece of fresh fruit or dark chocolate.  But if these are BIG changes for you, pick 1 or 2, NOT all of them.  And do them, or any other healthy change of your choice, until it becomes part of your identity.  Forgive yourself for veering off track.  We’re human, afterall.  Hop back ON!!

Need a jump start?  Domani Salon and Spa is still offering Advocare’s 24-Day Challenge at at a discount of 25% off through the last day of January.  If you’d like to be motivated by the opportunity to win a spa package in the Biggest Winner Contest, call TODAY.  As long as I talk to you on or before February 4th, your results will still qualify.  It’s fun, it’s easy, and IT WORKS!  The system gives you a boost and supports your healthy lifestyle any time of year.

Now, for those of you kings and queens of motivation and will-power out there (and I don’t mean me, I still completely loose it around anything covered in frosting or cheese!), you know that adding protein to your meals and snacks, helps cut cravings, accelerates your body’s ability to burn calories, and hastens the recovery process after exercise.  Advocare “Pro 20 is a well-rounded, superior liquid protein and amino acid supplement.* And, it’s not just any protein. The 3 oz. bottle is packed with 20 grams of soluble hydrolyzed protein, which the body can absorb quickly, to support lean muscle mass.*

Unlike many protein supplements, Pro 20 provides 200 mg of Alpha-GPC, helping increase strength, speed, agility, reaction time, and power and performance.* With just 140 calories, Pro 20 is also packed with B vitamins and electrolytes. The convenient and fast delivery of these superior ingredients facilitates recovery, helping provide increased, sustained energy.* Pro 20 can be used as a pre-workout supplement as well as a recovery product.” (borrowed from Advocare.com)

Pick up your 8-serving box at Domani as soon as the roads are clear. 😉

On this blustery winter day, I’m looking forward to a little salad pick-me-up.  My friend, Heather, shared this recipe with me almost a year ago, when I begun my Advocare journey.  She said she liked it because it has a little bit of everything you in it and I’ve made it nearly once a month since.  I love all the flavors and textures.

Black Bean and Mango Salad

1 ½- 2 c mango
½ -1 c thin sliced green onion
1-1½ c brown rice
3 tbsp fresh cilantro minced
1 tbsp salsa
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp olive oil, or grapeseed oil
¾ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 large can of black beans

Slice, dice, mix and enjoy!!!  I will also put some of this on top of 2 cups of mixed green to get more veggie in.

Be safe and be good to yourself!

Yours truly,

Lisa Foat
