Domani has introduced Cupping therapy into our massages.

Cupping is a  traditional, time-honored treatment which is favored by millions of people worldwide because of it’s safe, comfortable, remarkable results effective for many health disorders.

Cupping therapy is the method of using glass or plastic cups to create localized pressure by a vacuum.  The Chinese have been doing this since ancient times by using heat inside glass or bamboo cups.  Nowadays, cupping sets use suction to create the vacuum.  The vacuum inside the cups causes the blood to form in the area and help the healing in that area.

Ancient Chinese medicine have believed that the body contains “Meridians”.  These meridians are pathways in the body which the energy of life called Qi (“chi”) flows through.  It flows through every body part, tissue, and organ.  Cupping therapy is mainly performed on one’s back because there are five meridians on your back.  When these meridians are opened, the internal energy is able to flow through the whole body.

Another healing aspect of cupping therapy is through the release of toxins in your body.  The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into your tissues causing the tissues to release harmful toxins.  It triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels, and stretches and activates the skin.

Cupping therapy has been found in ancient records dating back 3500 years and it is still used today by many. Through suction, the skin is drawn into the cup by creating a vacuum in the cup placed on the skin over the targeted area. The cupping removes harmful substances and toxins from the body to promote well-being.

People receive the cupping therapy for many reasons. Some include but are not limited to inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and deep- tissue massage.

advocare spark reformulated….

ADVOCARE Spark has been reformulated & we have it at domani!!!!

  • Why are there less calories and carbohydrates in Spark? Is it equally beneficial?
    The reduction in calories and carbohydrates comes from a reduction in an inactive ingredient called
    maltodextrin. This reduction allows for a smaller serving size, which means we can provide Spark in
    more convenient packaging while still offering all of the same benefits.
  • Are there still the same amounts of servings per canister?
    Yes, you still receive approximately 42 servings of Spark per canister. As your canister is being
    shipped, powder may settle and appear more compacted than when it was originally filled.
  • Why is the scoop smaller?
    By reducing the amount of an inactive ingredient (maltodextrin), we are able to fit all of the benefits of
    Spark into a smaller scoop. Spark’s benefits have not changed. The only major differences are that
    the product serving size has now gone from 15g to 7g of powder, 45 to 15 calories, and 11g to 4g of
    carbohydrates. The directions remain, “Blend, shake or stir contents of one stick pack or one scoop
    into 8 fluid ounces of water.”
  • What is maltodextrin? Why does Spark have maltodextrin? Why did you reduce the
    maltodextrin in Spark?
    Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide, three or more carbohydrate molecules joined together, derived
    from a starch (corn). Maltodextrin is used to help product flow through filling equipment during the
    manufacturing process. Advances in powder fill technology have led to newer, faster equipment
    capable of accurately delivering smaller amounts of powder into packaging. With this new technology
    available to us, we are able to reduce the amount of maltodextrin in the product.
  • Why does Spark cost the same amount as before?
    The active ingredients, servings and all of the great benefits of Spark are all present in more
    convenient packaging.

Happy Heart Month!

Happy February!  It’s the American Heart Association Heart Month and a great time to focus on things we can do to inspire healthy hearts all around us.  Without a doubt, getting that much needed cardio 3 hours a week is a much bigger challenge this time of year than in mid summer.  But, can I just tell you, one of the things I love most about February?  I was reminded of this this morning at my health club of choice, how much less crowded by favorite fitness classes are, compared to last month!!  So, if crowds of New Year’s Resolution fanatics have forced you to keep your distance from your gym of choice, COME BACK!  Your heart will thank you.  Just as it will if you clear the clothes off your stationary bike, eliptical, or treadmill at home.  Or get your dog out for the regular walks he needs regardless of the weather.  Start with 15 minutes a day, then 20.  When you’re ready to make the jump from 25 to 30, give yourself a day off.  This may be a challenge.  It’s worth it.  Sitting at a desk all day is something we learned.  Gradually.  Remember how early in our school days they had to give us several recesses per day so we could all run around?  Later, it was just one, until high school, when none were required.  Some chose after school activities, some did not.  And our fates were sealed.  We might not have been fully in control of those choices then, whether transportation was an issue, or money, or the drive to get the best grades possible.  We are in charge now.  We may not get to take an hour’s worth of breaks each day to “run around”, but we can choose to incorporate some activities into our lifestyles in that same spirit.
 
On another  heart-healthy note, by now most everyone has heard how good oatmeal is for heart health, as its fiber has been proven to lower cholesterol and is a satisfying alternative to just about anything you can have for breakfast.  My Advocare education has led me to now chose only oatmeal or an Advocare Meal Replacement Shake for breakfast.  One of the reasons is that when you look at the back of a canister of oatmeal, there is one ingredient:  oatmeal.  No sodium, no cholesterol, plenty of soluable fiber, naturally high in iron, and a fair amount of protein!  And no sugar or anything we cannot pronounce the names of.  This is huge for me because, in the past year, I quit a 35 year cold cereal habit!  Of course, some are more like empty calories than others, and at least I always ate breakfast, which is way better than not.

Once again, I’ve opted to borrow a fabulous recipe from the test kitchen of Heather Devine.  Heather, if you’re reading this, Many Thanks, as this recipe is great for so many reasons (check out the protein!) and I had my heart set on sending out an oatmeal family solution rather than just telling everyone to “Eat more oatmeal.”  Watch for more of these in the 3 weeks to come.  Enjoy!  🙂 
 
Oatmeal Pecan Pancakes
 
1 c. egg whites
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. oats
1/3 c. milk
2 tbsp. oil (I use grapeseed or olive)
1/4 c. finely ground pecans (food processors will grind whole pecans)
1/4 c. flax seed meal
1/4 tsp. Stevia
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
½ tsp. cinnamon
Beat egg whites till fluffy.  Beat remaining ingredients until just smooth.   For thinner pancakes, add a ¼ cup water at a time.  For each pancake, drop ¼ c batter onto hot griddle.  Serve with real maple syrup.

Never too late….

Hi All,
 
How are those New Year’s Resolutions coming, Team?  If you’ve begun to feel like you’ve bitten off more than you could chew, don’t give up.  Don’t give IN!!  Perhaps you took on too much at once and you couldn’t keep up up with everything you were trying to do differently.  Just take a couple steps back to where you got off track or renew your commitment and start over if you need to. It’s never too late to make a healthy lifestyle change.  Hmmm… Lifestyle change.  You’ll notice you may never hear me use the word DIET.  I can think of very few concepts that are more counterproductive.  Small changes you believe in so strongly that you are willing to commit to that way of thinking for the rest of your life, a.k.a. lifestyle changes, pave the path to wellness success you can really hold onto.  It’s never too late.  Your body will thank you. 
 
Start small.  Consider changes you can do easily TODAY.  Take a 20 minute walk.  Say “no” to soft drinks for the rest of the day.  Try a veggie and nuts for a snack instead of anything with sugar.  Redefine dessert as a piece of fresh fruit or dark chocolate.  But if these are BIG changes for you, pick 1 or 2, NOT all of them.  And do them, or any other healthy change of your choice, until it becomes part of your identity.  Forgive yourself for veering off track.  We’re human, afterall.  Hop back ON!!

On this blustery winter day, I’m looking forward to a little salad pick-me-up.  My friend, Heather, shared this recipe with me almost a year ago, when I begun my Advocare journey.  She said she liked it because it has a little bit of everything you in it and I’ve made it nearly once a month since.  I love all the flavors and textures.
 
Black Bean and Mango Salad
 
1 ½- 2 c mango
½ -1 c thin sliced green onion
1-1½ c brown rice
3 tbsp fresh cilantro minced
1 tbsp salsa
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp olive oil, or grapeseed oil
¾ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 large can of black beans

Slice, dice, mix and enjoy!!!  I will also put some of this on top of 2 cups of mixed green to get more veggie in.
